Leo Grillo founded the super, care-for-life sanctuary called D.E.L.T.A Rescue in 1979. D.E.L.T.A. stands for Dedication and Everlasting Love to Animals. And the super sanctuary lives up to its name in its 115-acre mountaintop ranch, located in the high desert of Los Angeles. The sanctuary provides a home for life for an abandoned dog or cat found or born in the wilderness. DELTA is a no-kill shelter and sanctuary and provides a home for more than 1500 animals.

The sanctuary cares for all animals’ needs their entire lives. D.E.L.T.A. has two veterinary hospitals with a full-time veterinary staff on the premises. They have state-of-the-art equipment and they are able to give the animals the finest care possible. The rescued animals at DELTA are never adopted out. The philosophy of the founder is the animals have been through enough and a promise to them is made that he will not risk their safety and happiness again by adopting them out. National statistics show that most adoptive families only keep animals for a mere 2 1/2 years. Which means the animals would soon find themselves in the pound or some other insecure situation. Once a DELTA resident, always a DELTA resident.
